Kwang Gae

 

KWANG-GAE is named after the famous Kwang-Gae-Toh-Wang, the 19th King of the Koguryo Dynasty, who regained all the lost territories including the greater part of Manchuria. The diagram represents the expansion and recovery of lost territory. The 39 movements refer to the first two figures of 391 A. D., the year he came to the throne.

PO-EUN is the pseudonym of a loyal subject Chong Mong-Chu (1400) who was a famous poet and whose poem "I would not serve a second master though I might be crucified a hundred times" is known to every Korean. He was also a pioneer in the field of physics. The diagram represents his unerring loyalty to the king and country towards the end of the Koryo Dynasty.

Stand right rear leg stance (cat) facing front knife in back right hand.

 

1- Step right foot forward, slash upward.

2- Slash horizontally to right, then to left, switch hand.

3- Step left foot forward, slash upward.

4- Slash horizontally to left, then to right, switch hand.

5- Step right foot forward, Stab downward.

6- Move right foot 270 degree to right, forming right front stance, downward stab

7- Move right foot to form left back stance stab to left by flip of the wrist, straighten

     the wrist, straight thrust.

8- Move right foot 180 degree to right , forming right front stance, downward stab.

9- Repeat move 7.

10- Move right foot right downward stab.

11- Move right foot back, flipping blade, stepping forward and thrust.

12- Move left foot back, outward block.

13- Shuffling forward straight thrust.

14- Move right foot 180 degree to right, downward stab.

15- X-slash to right, then to left, switch hand.

16- Step left foot forward, downward stab.

17- X-slash to left, then to right, switch hand.

18- Step right foot forward, downward stab.

Back to Chunbi stance.
